and so it goes

Uncategorized August 2nd, 2007

The end shouldn’t be the end at all. It should be the arrival.

One of the many things I learned at Clarion West that can be applied in equal measures to writing and life. Another – don’t begin a story with having someone wake up in the morning. Well, that doesn’t cross over as well, but the sentiment is there.: Start from somewhere unexpected.

A condo in Toronto may not fit the bill, but it’s all I got. So, this is where I begin…again. Have returned to my life after six weeks living and breathing the craft, living in a house with seventeen others doing the same. Much was experienced, much was learned. I’m hoping these little gems of insight will pop out from my brain like well-fed mice, little furry wonders scurrying across the floor.

I’ll do my best not to trample them.

So, I take my next tentative steps forward - I’m hoping that speaking here a little about what I do will help me maintain a teensy tiny bit of personal accountability, without crossing over into the perilous realm of Writing Avoidance.

Ok, this is my stop. I’m getting off the bus.

Better turn on my flashlight.
