Why the hell are there two ‘d’s in this word when one is clearly enough? The Anglo-Saxons got greedy. The result? Millions of school children being beaten with small rulers because a word that is supposed to be simple, that is meant to be one of the first we learn, is impossible to spell. Two more:
Colonel (Gah!)
Medieval
And just because it has a personal vendetta against ever allowing me to write it close enough to its actual spelling so that the spellcheck in MS Word will be able to discern my creation as an actual human word:
