The great unanswered questions of our time – volume #217496

Why must every Alice Munro story contain a scene where someone watches a car drive down a dusty road? WHY?

It’s probably just envy talking, but seriously - at least spice it up and make it a tractor trailer or a unicycle or something.

I never noticed that and I’ve read nearly all her stuff. If it really bothers you, why do you read her work?

Maybe I underplayed the envy thing – I think she’s a brilliant writer and a great storyteller, I just find it amusing that the same scene shows up so often. It’s actually kind of comforting, like literary mashed potatoes.
